Fall 17 Chinatown Evolving

Every city in California is required by law to have a General Plan that lays out a vision and standards for development, including land use policies that dictate where different buildings and activities are allowed.

For Los Angeles, a city of over 500 square miles, the Department of City Planning tailors land use policies to local needs through 35 Community Plans. DTLA 2040 is an initiative focused on updating the two Community Plans that comprise Downtown Los Angeles—Central City and Central City North, which includes Chinatown.

As the City works to finalize this document, familiarize yourself with the planning process so that you can help set the policy framework that will guide Chinatown’s future growth.

Here is a map of Chinatown’s recent developments and future projects and developments.
